Color Theory Through Collage Workshop Join Erin for a workshop exploring color theory through the medium of collage. We will start by looking at the color wheel for color combinations and ideas. We’ll make some quick color study collages and then focus on one (or more) larger or more intricate piece exploring a set of colors or your choice. Erin will bring a lot of colorful papers to select from and students are invited to add their own papers to any of the colorful piles. Materials: Paper to work on: watercolor paper or mixed media weight paper are great choices, sketchbook or loose paper Collage materials - anything! Some examples include: magazines (a fashion magazine is very helpful for this class), origami paper, Color-aid paper, large format paint chips, art experiments, scrap paper, thin fabrics, postcards, maps, color swatches - anything will do - bring a combination of BIO: Erin McCluskey Wheeler is a painter, collagist, writer, curator, and teacher based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Erin works in many series at once and across disciplines in painting, collage, works on paper, prints, essays, and poetry. There is always a careful attention to placement, selection, and adjacency in both her writing and her visual art. Each medium with its different qualities, allows Erin to explore ideas about memory, language, color, and place, while retaining a unified voice that reflects on the power of color and connection. Erin has a BA in studio art and art history from Beloit College, and an MFA from California College of the Arts in writing. Erin is a faculty member of the 92NY School of the Arts in New York City. With other nonprofits and art centers, Erin teaches collage and mixed media classes and workshops throughout the Bay Area.
